Mental Health

During your studies, it is super important to look after your mental health and general well-being. Whilst it can be tempting to spend all your time hitting the books, you should make sure you take some down time too. It may also be the case that you or one of your friends needs some extra help or advice. We have compiled a list detailing our tips and advice, as well as great websites and apps you can access:

  • First and foremost, make sure you are registered with a GP. If you do need to seek treatment or advice, they should be your first port of call.

  • Also, make sure you register with your University's mental health services if you need to, who can provide support. It is also useful to make your personal tutor aware if this will affect your studies; both them and the University's general mental health services will be able to organise support for your studies, extensions or time out of studying if need be.

  • mind.org.uk is an amazing website, providing information and support for those with mental health issues, if you're struggling to find a place to start looking for help.

  • The NHS have a useful guide to mental health and well-being, so be sure to check their website out and access their resources.

  • Students Against Depression website is also another fantastic site to access.

  • UCL has compiled a fantastic list of specialist support, including helplines you can call. As mentioned previously, your individual universities will undoubtedly have their own resources and other support available - so make sure you are aware and accessible to them.

  • Fortunately, in this day and age you can also get support with your mental health through apps! We would recommend apps such as the Student Health App, Stress & Anxiety Companion and Catch It - Make Sense of Moods. Of course, we acknowledge that this is far from an exhaustive list of apps available, so make sure to check out the websites outlined above and see what apps they recommend to help provide support.

  • On a final note, we would love for you to get in contact with us with your website and app recommendations not already mentioned. We will make sure to include them here for other people to see and use.
